My name is Ryan. This workspace is dedicated to my passion seeking to freeze in time and immortalize some of the fleeting unique moments that plants and their flowers offer us. An aim of mine is to to celebrate nature and to play with ways of creating spaces in our lives which reflect that celebration and perhaps inspire conservation…
As a millennial born in the early 90’s I have an interesting relationship with the mediums of photography which straddle the dawn of the digital age. Pictures of me and my family from when I was young are all on 35mm film, while by the time I was in high school everything was firmly digital. Photography has grown to be extraordinarily accessible and to take an image today is not necessarily something pondered or given any thought to at all. Anyone with a phone can take hundreds of images in minutes and delete any or all of them just as quickly.
I think the ubiquity that pervades photography today is a quite incredible achievement which has reshaped the way we tell stories and more importantly who is able to tell them.
That being said, I have fallen in love with the analogue process of shooting film and playing with the traditional photographic processes at home (and in my bathroom). I find myself thinking so much more about the images I create both before and after I make them. I still use digital photography every day, and I still have a phone and take loads of selfies and other snapshots. the various mediums are never mutually exclusive and nor should they be. I genuinely just think its great fun.
I hope that you enjoy exploring the images and thoughts presented here as much as I enjoyed creating and thinking them!
